Honoring the Benghazi Legends Woods and Doherty

In the time-honored tradition of veterans helping veterans, my friend and sculptor Greg Marra is helping combat vets with PTSD and other war wounds to heal through sculpture at Veteransart.org.
He is also creating statuary to honor the sacrifices of Glen Doherty and Tyrwone Woods. We can never really thank them adequately, but we can honor them as Western warriors have been honored going back to the ancient Greeks. Below is a press release from Greg that explains the project.
The pond scum who watched them die on live satellite feed will never honor them, so we must do our duty and provide them with that honor.
I provide two pictures of Greg's statue of Chris Kyle he gave to Kyle family. He's the real deal and you can trust your donation will go to what you gave it for.
Veterans to Sculpt & Build Monument to Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty—Heroes of  Benghazi It is time for the American people to honor the two hero
es from the Benghazi attack who many owe their lives to, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.
The two men who selflessly gave their lives that day knowing that there would be no reinforcements. Veterans from veteranart.org under the guidance of renowned sculptor Greg Marra who made the Chris Kyle statue, are doing just that, honor these two men in everlasting bronze; these two warriors immortalized the warrior spirit and ethos in them—it is only fitting those two brothers in arms, close in life and death, be immortalized together in bronze for eternity, by combat veterans.
VeteranArt.Org received the final graces they needed to start a statue of Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty. Greg Marra came to a realization that his work was more about giving to the veterans, than for his own gain. He has hired the help of local veterans, like Jason Collins, Army Military Intelligence and Shawn Houser, USAF Para-rescue, for this project. Mr. Marra has a pool of veteran talent and would like more commissions on military memorials to hire more of those veterans.
Donations can be made at  http://sculptingourheroes.com/portfolio/tyrone-woods-and-glenn-doherty/
He is training veterans to represent themselves in the memorial process as it should be warriors honoring warriors in bronze for eternity.
Greg Marra, who sculpted the Chris Kyle Memorial Statue, has started the sculpting process and hired veterans to help sculpt this fitting tribute of these two warriors. “I’ve run into more vets daily that wanted to pursue art and that understood the power of art than I would ever fathom; empowering them with fine arts training, and encouraging themselves as gallant warriors instead of victims is god’s work.” What a better tribute then to have brothers in arms, immortalize two of their own who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting life.
We are need of donations to make this fitting tribute a reality. The cost of this memorial, fair market value, would be $85,000 total for two life size statues to the bronze stage- more money might be need to get these statues bronzed. These statues will employ up to four veterans, full time—Mr. Marra is donating his time and expertise for free.
This is a groundbreaking organization. No other veteran organization has a renowned artist opening his tudio-for free, donating his time and services, and paying veterans to comeand learn how to sculpt without taking any money for himself-only for supplies; while simultaneously—those veterans are making memorials to other veterans who have died heroically serving or helping their own countrymen and women.

Here is the recent press release Greg Marra sent out about this:

It is time for the American people to honor the two heroes of the Benghazi attack who gave their lives so that so many others might live: Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods. These two men added to the proud tradition of American fighting men selflessly giving their lives on September 11th, 2012. They fought for nine hours against hundreds of attacking jihadi’s, even when it was clear to them that the reinforcements they requested over and over were never coming to their aid.

Veterans from VeteranArt.org, under the guidance of renowned sculptor Greg Marra (who previously made and donated the Chris Kyle statue), are going to honor the memory and sacrifice of Glen Doherty and Tyrone woods. Together, they will create a statue that will finally honor these two extraordinary men in everlasting bronze. These two SEALs immortalized the warrior spirit and ethos. It is therefore fitting that these two brothers in arms, close in life and together in death, be immortalized together in bronze for eternity, by combat veterans.
Mr. Woods, the father of Tyrone Woods said “Thank you for honoring my son in a bronze statue.”  Kate Doherty, the sister of Glenn Doherty, stated that she wishes us success and luck in the process, that she is so pleased the statue will help veterans. VeteranArt.org has received their blessing to start a statue of Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty.
In a unique approach to creating the statues that will honor Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty, Greg Marra has hired local Sarasota, Florida, veterans, like Jason Collins, former U.S. Army military intelligence operative and Michael Scelia, former U.S. Army forward observer, for this project. (Mr. Marra has a pool of veteran talent, and he can hire more veterans if he is commissioned for other projects.) He is training veterans to represent themselves in the memorial process. Marra stated that his goal is to have “Warriors honoring warriors in bronze for eternity.”

Greg Marra has already started the statue sculpting process and hired veterans to help sculpt this fitting tribute of these two warriors. According to Mr. Marra, “I run into more vets daily that want to pursue and who understand the power of art than I will ever fathom. My plan is to help empower them with fine arts training, and encourage them as the gallant warriors they are. I believe this is God’s work. What a tribute to have brothers-in-arms immortalize two of their own who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting so many other lives.”
Jason Collins and Mike Scelia even have a pet name for the statue: “Dueling machine guns.” They named it that because of its heavy guns and all the bullet casings that lay at Tyrone’s and Glenn’s feet. They added that, “Veteran art is an amazing concept and gratitude is an understatement toward how we feel about Mr. Marra…his actions show that people actually care about us, and our service to this nation.”
Veteran Art/ Sculpting Our Heroes needs contributions from many Americans to make these statues a reality. These statues will employ up to four veteran’s full time. (Mr. Marra will be donating his time and expertise as his way of saying “Thank you” to all veterans for their service and sacrifice.)
This is a groundbreaking organization. No organization has a renowned artist opening his studio-for free, donating his time and services, and paying veterans to come and learn how to sculpt without taking any money for himself-only for supplies while simultaneously instructing and training veterans who are making memorials to other veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Please help us make these statues so that the generations who follow will know the sacrifices great warriors like Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty have made to keep us all free.

I don't talk about my family much but I want to thank my wife publicly for supporting me in my art career. Art is a very difficult career and my wife kept us alive while I campaigned for over a decade. In 2004 I started my quest to build patriotic statues and learned so much about how public statuary works. After hundreds upon hundreds of turn downs and empty promises my wife was there for me. Ten years later I am helping and training veterans and that gives her so much joy. If you want my two cents, Jana is a true American Patriot to the bone because she financed the veteran art vision with her long hours as a nurse. Finally through helping veterans and giving them work to honor their brothers in bronze statuary my career has reached new heights and the past few years have been good to us. Thanks to you my wife Jana Marra Marra and your hard work, even though I sculpt many warriors you are my true hero!
